PARENT BILL OF RIGHTS

  • A Parent’s Bill of Rights is to reaffirm rights which are founded upon the principle that parents are their child's first and most important teacher and are the primary stakeholders for the upbringing of their children. Parents are responsible for the moral, emotional, and, if desired, religious development of their children and instill the qualities of good citizenship.

  • 1.

Parents have the right to expect their children will be taught how to think, not what to think.

  • 2.

Parents have the right to choose the school that best meets their child's needs.

  • 3.

Parents have the right to expect that educational opportunities and quality schools are not contingent upon where they live.

  • 4.

Parents have the right to review and provide input for their child’s curriculum.

  • 5.

Parents have the right to influence educational policies to ensure the interests of their children are placed ahead of the interests of the system.

  • 6.

Parents have the right to expect a highly effective teacher in every classroom and that their children can access relevant learning opportunities to accomplish their goals.

  • 7.

Parents have the right to access financial information to know how much money is being spent at the classroom, district, and state levels.

  • 8.

Parents have the right to know of any on-campus safety concerns and receive notice of any activity for which parental permission should be sought. No implied consent.

  • 9.

Parents have the right to expect that learning areas are equipped with the necessary tools for a first-rate education that prepares students for their future.

  • 10.

Parents have the right to question and/or object to statements and/or policies from the federal to the local level without fear of retaliation for themselves or their children.

Parents are responsible for supporting their children's learning by providing for their basic needs, overseeing school attendance, and monitoring the completion of assignments. Parents are responsible for staying informed with how public schools operate and to use school systems to manage outcomes and disagreements. Parents have the responsibility to be engaged in the educational results for their child and to inspire successful learning.
