ISSUES

 No CRT

CRT does not belong in our public schools. Period. It’s a divisive and contentious theory for discussing race relations that seeks to undermine the Constitutional values of our country.

Required Personal Finance

I will advocate for a personal finance class to be required in high school. Our kids should be taught how retirement plans, taxes, health insurance, college tuition, interest, and loans work. View my Op-Ed Here.

Engaged Parents

Strengthening the role and responsibility of parents has to include providing meaningful opportunities for parent participation in the decision-making of their child’s education at home and at school.

Local Control

Local control is key for determining what’s best for our Idaho communities. I want to support and partner with school boards in ways that bring teachers, parents, students, and administrators in as part of the system and decision making.

Proper Funding

Effectively use each dollar to get as much money to classrooms and students. Proper funding represents the true cost to educate a child in a modern context with resources that match our expectations.

School Choice

Parents are the experts on their kids. We can support a variety of learning options that match the needs of the students and allow parents to choose. We need state funding and policies that support choice.

Supporting Our Professionals

Professional Educators need to be heard, trusted, compensated, prepared with the tools to face the challenges of the classroom and they need their roles to be simplified. They need a leader with a voice that will be their advocate.

My Priorities

  • LOCAL SOLUTIONS

    ● Educational choices (public, charter, homeschool, online, hybrid options, access in rural areas)

    ● Strengthen decision making at the most local-level

  • STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

    ● Focus on foundational skills: Literacy and Math

    ● Readiness as the 4th “R” of education

    ● Champion an individualized student experience that moves students toward their educational goals.

  • STUDENT SUCCESS

    ● Create pathways for college and career opportunities for all students, urban & rural

    ● Work-based learning for high school Juniors and Seniors

    ● Support learning and parent resources for behavioral health needs

  • EDUCATOR SUPPORT

Education to Workforce synergy…

Engaging students in work-based learning opportunities is a key component in creating our workforce, along with a strategic vision for getting it done. We must offer quality educational programs across the state. These programs include internships and apprenticeships for students and externships for our teachers, counselors, and advisors.  This is how we create a workforce for the 21st Century.

Idaho needs a visionary leader to advance Idaho schools and students.

I believe in Idaho, our students, parents, teachers, communities, main street businesses, and industries. That’s why I’m seeking your support as the Superintendent of Public Instruction. My commitment to Idaho’s educational programs will be evidenced by effective and engaged leadership.

This includes communication, listening, availability, and strengthening relationships with local school leaders and administrators, parents, students, community, and industry leaders.

“True leaders don’t create followers. They create more leaders.”

Talking with high school and college student leaders is a priority. They are our customers! It’s not enough to simply provide books and pencils, basketballs and playgrounds for our kids. We need to provide them skills that help them reach their potential and develop our future leaders. We find that in learning, setting high expectations and goals and then working like crazy to make it happen.

The State of Idaho Land Board:

As a former local school district leader, I know first hand the benefit that comes to our schools from Idaho endowment lands. The endowment is a multi-billion dollar asset that provides needed funds for our public K-12 schools. As a land board member, I will work to maximize the return for the benefit of schools and at the same time protect the endowment fund. I understand the importance of land providing revenue for families and economies because my husband and I make our living from the land.
